Pre-EVC web seminar: Chronic Venous Obstruction – state of the art diagnostic and treatment from the view of global experts

On the occasion of the 25th European Vascular Course (EVC), the MOH holds a MOH Talk under the theme of " Chronic Venous Obstruction." The webinar highlights the newest approaches to diagnosing and treating venous insufficiency, presented by a class of renowned global experts. The presentations serve as a preamble to the lectures and workshops expected to be covered at the 25th EVC event on June 12–14, 2022, in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The MOH Talk is an excellent opportunity for vascular surgeons, phlebologists, and vein specialists interested in expanding their vascular experience and gaining cutting-edge knowledge in the effective clinical management of venous diseases.

Prof. Dr. Michael Jacobs, founder and general director of the EVC, begins the webinar with a keynote speech on the goals of the EVC event this year, explaining how the entire onsite event is a great opportunity for participants to attend lectures led by a faculty of experts in the field and participate in hands-on workshops.

The MOH Talk proceeds with Prof. Dr. Houman Jalaie, Head of the European Vein Center in Aachen-Maastricht, and the Advisory Council of the German Society for Phlebology, DE, taking the stage to talk about the diagnostic and treatment methods for chronic venous obstruction. He takes us on a tour through the signs, symptoms, contraindications, and diagnostic tools of chronic venous obstruction, focusing on the importance of implementing Duplex and IVUS Ultrasound as mandatory diagnostic approaches for preoperative decision-making and determining the landing zones.

Following this illuminating presentation, Prof. Dr. Harikrishna K. R. Nair, Head of the Wound Care Unit, Dept. of Internal Medicine, KLH, and Founding President of the Malaysian Society of WoundCare Professionals, MYS, shares an overview of his ongoing clinical trial about Venous Leg Ulcer (VLU) Management, backed with real-life evidence, under the title, "Utilization of Compreflex Wraps in Patients with Chronic Venous Insufficiency: A Quasi-Experimental Post-Market Clinical Follow-Up Study." Evidence of the effectiveness of inelastic compression wraps in VLU patients is demonstrated with a meta-analysis of how VLU compression increases healing rates compared to non-compression approaches. The study will be discussed in detail at the 25th EVC event.

The enlightening session concludes with remarks from Dr. Mirko Tessari, Doctor of Research in Vascular Diseases and Elastocompressive Therapy, Phlebology Technician, and Osteopathy, on the importance of choosing the appropriate compression device for each patient. On the 25th EVC, a series of hands-on workshops on that theme will be held.
